024 – Stepping Back in Time

I’ve been looking forward to visiting the buddhist temples here in Japan and today I got to visit Jindaiji, the second oldest Buddhist temple in Tokyo.

Built in 733, the grounds are beautiful and to our surprise and delight, during our visit inside the temple, a monk came in and did his evening prayers.  The meditation, which included a chant with periodic chimes of the bell and some drumming was amazing.  I’ve never witnessed anything like it.

This place is famous for it’s soba noodles and has a restaurant on site that is supposed to be well worth the wait, however on this day, the restaurant was having a private event, so there was no soba for us, this time.
