037 – Blue Light Special

This image was taken at the end of the Golden Hour when the blue light comes out to play just after dusk.  This light has always been my favorite kind of natural light.  I love the iridescent blue color and the surreal feeling that comes with it.   It feels special partly because it’s so short and I feel lucky to catch it, like I did today.

The Blue Light Special is one of those things for me that just comes instantly to mind when I hear the words blue light together.   I also starting singing the song Midnight Special, but with the words changed to Blue Light Special in my head.

I know … that’s strange and possibly blasphemous, too.

One of the things I love about writing something short about the images I post each day is how it can invite me to read about something new.   In this case, I learned about the famous phrase,

Attention Kmart® shoppers. There’s a blue light special in aisle …

I knew that the Blue Light Special was related to Kmart already.  I didn’t realize it had been around since 1965.  – credit to Historically Speaking

Maybe it’s not so strange that it’s in my head like that?

In case you didn’t know, the Kmart Blue Light Special signifies a special deal that only lasts for a short time.  Seems like the blue light during the Golden Hour is the same: a special deal that only lasts for a short time.

I’m grateful I caught it today and it sure was a good deal!
